CHARITY YOGA AT BLISS WITH ROLAND DELA CRUZ

// Thu // 10.22.09

teacher roland

I met Roland at the Global Mala Project 2009 about a month ago. I didn’t exactly meet him formally (“Isla meet Roland, Roland–Isla”), but I did join his Bhakti Urban Flow class. When I scanned through the Global Mala event schedule, the name of the class caught my curiosity so I just had to try it.

Bhakti Urban Flow–what is it? The class description on the Bliss Yoga Manila site is short and sweet: Bhakti Urban Flow is an amazing practice of chanting and vinyasa. We begin the class with a chant and end with a chant. Not to worry…chanting is of no religious origin. It’s a way to prepare the mind and body for a vigorous practice and calm the mind at the end before moving back into our daily lives. That is exactly how it went during my first class. Roland’s mesmerizing voice drew in my full attention at the start of the class. It also kept me focused when I thought I couldn’t hold those balance poses any longer. After the height of all the energy, the humming sound of chanting at the end of the class was welcoming.

We finally got to meet formally, or rather–informally, on Facebook… Ahh, the wonders of Facebook! I got a few messages from Roland about the weekly charity classes at Bliss, which to me is an excellent way to DO yoga. So I visited the studio last week when my sister and I joined Francesca Regala’s charity class. I was overjoyed to see Roland there… It was like seeing an old friend again after so many years. He gave us a small tour of his Bliss-full place with a little history of how it came about.

I shouldn’t give it all away though. Come and experience it for yourself! You’d love it! There will be no better time to do this than on Roland’s charity class this Saturday, October 24, at 11:00am-12:30pm. Proceeds will go towards the continuing relief efforts for those affected by Typhoon Parma/Pepeng in the Northern Philippines. See you there!

RELAXATION YOGA & HEALING SOUND

// Thu // 10.15.09

HEALING SOUND

First There Was A Sound.

Subtle Primordial Vibration known as Omkara…AUM or OM. Sound is Most Subtle, Powerful Force in the Universe.

A distinctive, ingenious and innovative approach using sound to developing self-awareness, to access deeper states of consciousness, expand awareness and heal the body which leads us into a journey to the core our being,  a mindful condition of centering.  Blending ancient sound techniques Tibetan singing bowls, Chanting, Toning, Chinese meditation bowl, Indian bells, Didgeridoo, Mantras and Indigenous tribal instruments with wholesome nature sounds as well as emphasizing the new science of sound healing technology neuroacoustic sound waves brain frequency pulsating and vibrating in various degrees of body mind and wellbeing.  Sound and Music can reach into aspects of our psyche enhance learning, treat stress-distress, be able to heal from emotional, mental, psychic  disorders, pain, and bring healing and change karma. Sound therapy a subtle wave of microvita energy medicine that creates a profound sacred space, an optimal environment for healing in which one  bring harmony and balance to the body mind and wellbeing and move towards recovery. Sitting a quite space to connect within furthermore journey with ease into deep state of meditation, creating a positive energy vibration for higher thinking, creative insights, increase creative potential, intuitive messages. The healing process is initiated by the finer sounds of nature, subtle sound frequency, Fine-tuning our brainwaves and creating sympathetic finer tone with serene harmonics of the bowls, bells and dejoreedo .The basic principle of Sound Healing is that of resonance; every object is in a state of vibration and therefore creates sound. This includes the various parts of our body, such as our organs, muscles, bones, blood, etc.  Sound can create – restore balance and alignment in, the physical body, the energy centers called “chakras”, and  the etheric fields and further more bring harmony to our lives and make us healthy and well. Sound is among the most transformative and healing energies on the planet.

In St. John, form the New Testament, it is written, “In the beginning was the Word, the Word was with God, and the Word was God.”

From the Vedas of the Hindu tradition comes the writing that, “In the beginning was Brahman with whom was the Word. And the Word is Brahman.”

The Ancient Egyptians believed that the god “Thot” created the world by his voice alone.

Also incorporated in the system of Rajadhiraja Yoga are two specific exercises that most yoga teachers, let alone students, are not yet acquainted with. One of these – Tandava – was formulated by Shiva 7000 years ago. It is a vigorous exercise (resembling to some extent the Russian Cossack dance) that is extremely beneficial for developing courage and spiritedness, as well as improving the memory. Because of its effect on the glands, it is only for men.

The second is a recent and innovative addition to Rajadhiraja Yoga that is particularly beneficial for women. It is called Kaoshikii. It instills in the mind the feeling of self-confidence and awareness, encouraging self-expression and creativity. It increases longevity, prevents and cures disease (including many types of liver diseases) and eases the discomforts of menstruation and childbirth. It is, in fact, a medicine in itself.

Kaosikii comes from the Samskrta word kosa, meaning “sheath” or “cell” or “layer” of the mind. Kosa can also be translated “inner self”.  Thuskaosikii is the dance that gives proper expression to the inner self. It is a psycho-spiritual dance designed by Shrii Shrii Anandamurtii Spiritual Master of world wide organization AMPS in 1978 particularly for women (though men should practice it also). It is important as tandava.

The dance consist of a series of eighteen movements performed in rhythm to the chanted mantra Baba Nam Kevalam. Along with each physical movement, there is a specific psychic ideation. Kaosikii exercises all the glands and limbs from head to foot. It keeps the spine flexible. It promotes regular menstruation in women. It also eases childbirth. In women, it has twenty-two specific benefits, including the cure of kidney, gall-bladder and liver diseases-making it an indispensable practice for health and vitality. In women and perhaps in men, it increases longevity, keeping the body fit even until the age of eighty.
